HEAD PROTECTION Q&A
Q What sizes are helmets available in? 122
A JSP safety helmets are available in one size which fits the majority of head sizes using an adjustable harness
system. The harness circumference is adjustable from 53-64cm. Additional 3D adjustment depth settings enable
an even more precise and secure fit.
Q What is the shelf and useful life of an industrial safety helmet?
A There is no requirement in EN or ANSI standards for assessment of a safety helmet’s shelf life, but manufacturers
are required to give some guidelines on the useful and overall life. The shelf and useful life of safety helmets
can therefore vary by manufacturer. JSP safety helmets have a combined shelf and useful life of 10 years –
helmets can be stored for up to 5 years in the appropriate storage conditions and can then be used up to 5 years
following, ensuring that the relevant inspection and maintenance is carried out. All JSP helmets carry a date of
manufacture under the peak which can be used to determine remaining life. For an example of manufacturing
date marking on a JSP helmet see page 9 JSP Evolite® Skyworker™, EVO®5 DualSwitch™, and EVO® VISTA®
DualSwitch™ helmets conform to EN 12492.
Q What is the shelf and useful life of a bump cap?
A JSP bump caps also have a combined shelf and usage life of 10 years. Products should be stored in the
appropriate conditions and examined regularly during use. While the bump cap is free from defects it is suitable
for its intended purpose, and under normal circumstances should offer adequate protection for 5 years.
All JSP bump caps are marked with a date of manufacture which can be used to determine the remaining life.
Q Do Linesman helmets and chinstraps meet EN 12492?
A No. Linesman chinstraps are tested in accordance with EN 397 and EN 14052. They offer a 4-point chinstrap
option for use with industrial safety helmets and EVO®8 high performance helmets that can be fitted and
replaced by the user.
